Model In the Loop Simulation of Hydrogen-based Microgrid with Linear Quadratic Gaussian Control Strategy
Microgrids based on hydrogen energy storage systems are becoming more prevalent in power system applications in recent years. However, the control of such complex systems has been a formidable challenge that is currently the subject of active research and investigation. In this study, a grid connected hydrogen based microgrid is modelled and controlled using an Integral Linear quadratic Gaussian (ILQG) method with voltage regulation functionality. A Model In the Loop (MIL) real-time simulation is conducted to validate the voltage regulation performance of the proposed control strategy. The results of the real-time simulation show that the proposed ILQG controller has excellent voltage tracking performance with settling times below 25 ms and percentage overshoots / undershoots less than 6% while the system is subjected to various disturbances. The controller response is also validated in the presence of uncertainties in the inductance values of DC subgrid converters, which arise due to manufacturing tolerances.
