Optimal Control Design of Microgrid System Using Transient Search Optimization Technique
This article addresses the development of an effective and reliable load frequency controller (LFC) for a Micro-Grid (MG) system as a standalone. Variable structure adaptive fuzzy (VSAF) with proportional–integral (PI) controller is used to stabilize the system. The proposed gains of VSAF controller as well as gains of PI are fine-tuned using Transient Search (TS) optimization technique to generate optimal settings. The objective function is defined as multi-objective function that merge the cost functions for both frequency and voltage. The control variables are the gains of VSAF and PI. The VSAF is compared to PI controllers using TS optimization technique. The study illustrates how MG can provide power supply to the critical loads that may be existed in some facilities such as nuclear power plant (NPP). It is widely recognized that improving the power supply is crucial for the shutdown of reactors specifically in emergency cases. To address this issue, the proposed solution in this article is the inclusion of a renewable energy as a supply source to critical loads in NPP.
