Robust Super-Twisting Control of Active Magnetic Bearing
This paper presents a comprehensive performance comparison of three advanced control strategies applied to dynamic Active Magnetic Bearing systems: the Super-Twisting Sliding Mode Controller (STMC), Terminal Sliding Mode Controller (TMSC), and Standard Sliding Mode Controller (SMC). Each controller’s effectiveness is evaluated based on critical performance metrics, including settling time, overshoot, rising time, and root mean square error (RMSE). The results indicate that all controllers achieved a settling time of 10 seconds, ensuring effective convergence to the desired state. Notably, the STMC exhibited superior performance with no overshoot and the fastest rise time of 1.1204 seconds, alongside an RMSE of 0.0002 mm, highlighting its precision in tracking the reference signal. Conversely, the TMSC showed a minor negative overshoot of -0.1840 mm, a rise time of 1.1260 seconds, and an RMSE of 0.0168 mm, demonstrating acceptable performance but slightly less accuracy. The SMC, while achieving no overshoot, presented the slowest rise time of 1.1967 seconds and the highest RMSE of 0.0230 mm, indicating its comparative limitations in tracking accuracy. These findings underscore the efficacy of the STMC in dynamic system control, providing valuable insights for future applications in high-precision environments.
