Krukenberg Syndrome Revealed: Ovarian Metastasis in Gastric Cancer
Krukenberg syndrome is a rare condition characterized by metastatic ovarian tumors originating primarily from gastrointestinal tract adenocarcinomas, particularly gastric cancer. This case report discusses a 60-year-old female presenting with bilateral ovarian masses and a history of gastric adenocarcinoma.Imaging studies revealed bilateral solid mass lesions in the adnexa, indicating bilateral ovarian metastases (Krukenberg tumor), as well as bilateral moderate hydroureteronephrosis and significant ascites.Upper GI endoscopy revealed severe hemorrhagic gastritis. The patient underwent comprehensive staging, and subsequent treatment involved chemotherapy targeting the underlying Krukenberg tumor.Despite aggressive management, the prognosis remains guarded due to the advanced stage of disease at presentation. This case underscores the importance of considering Krukenberg syndrome in patients with ovarian masses and gastrointestinal malignancies, emphasizing the challenges in its diagnosis and management.
