Design of a Solid S-Band Satellite Antenna for Both Transmitting and Receiving Purposes
In the present day, with communication technology, the entire world is integrated through satellite communication networks. Usually, a satellite is linked to an earth station by a microwave signal, which is transmitted and received through the antennas. Many countries are still using only UHF satellite communications with low data transfer rates due to their reliability in communications. With the advent of high-speed digital technologies and receiver processing algorithms, these limitations can be overcome, and users can receive highly reliable and fast communication through satellites. The antenna operating in the S-Band provides additional scope to practically realize the compact antenna appropriate for voice, high-speed data, and video transmissions through satellites. A new design concept of a helix antenna with a bow-tie technique at its termination has been suggested as a solid antenna for receiving as well as transmitting purposes. The suggested antenna has been designed and simulated for indispensable parameters like 3 dB beam width, axial ratio, gain, and VSWR. Later in the simulation, the same antenna is fabricated and experimentally tested. To validate an antenna, the simulation and experimental results are compared.
