The featured complex, a ReI tricarbonyl compound with extensively π-conjugated imidazo[4,5-f]1,10-phenanthroline derivatives helps DNA intercalation and exhibits higher phototoxicity against triple-negative breast cancer cells. Its potent anticancer activity is attributed to its ability to generate singlet oxygen (type II PDT), catalyze radical formation through NADH oxidation (type I PDT), disrupt glutathione (GSH) biosynthesis by triggering its conversion from GSH to GSSG, and release cytotoxic CO upon light irradiation. Abstract

More information can be found in the Research Article by B. Kar and P. Paira (DOI: 10.1002/chem.202401720).
