A novel version of the inverse Weibull distribution for analyzing medical data

The two-parameter inverse Weibull distribution is well-known in probability theory and frequently employed in various applied fields, especially in biological research. This paper introduces a novel three-parameter version of the inverse Weibull distribution, termed the updated inverse Weibull (UI-Wei) distribution. It details several properties of the UI-Wei model and provides estimators for its parameters. The paper also highlights the importance and practical applications of the UI-Wei distribution through three case studies in biological sciences: mortality rates among COVID-19 patients, remission times for bladder cancer patients, and survival times for breast cancer patients. Evaluation using four selection criteria indicates that the UI-Wei distribution is the most appropriate probability distribution for analyzing biological datasets.
