Transforming Student Admissions Data into Insights: A Power BI Analysis of Educational Demographics
This research investigates the application of Power BI to analyse and visualize student admissions data collected from a higher educational institution for the 2024-2025 academic year, which includes 924 students. By analyzing various demographic, academic, and socioeconomic factors, the analysis provides a comprehensive understanding of the student population and their preferences. To effectively interpret the data and uncover meaningful insights, multiple visual techniques such as bar charts, pie charts, and donut charts were utilized. The report focuses on vital issues that include the distribution of students according to government and management quotas, the diversity of boards of study, academic majors, and the method of instruction. Furthermore, it explores the living arrangements (day scholars versus hostellers), parental education and occupation levels, family income, and admissions based on district. In addition, the examination looks into how families use transportation and how students learn about the institution. The paper highlights the power of data visualization tools like Power BI to transform raw data into actionable insights, which aid educational institutions in making informed decisions. The findings offer valuable insights on student demographics, socio-economic backgrounds, and academic choices, making them a valuable resource for strategic planning, targeted outreach, and enhanced student engagement. By using this approach, we can demonstrate the potential of data-driven decision-making in education management.
