Frontiers in Chiral Nonspherical Nanocomposites
Chirality is a fundamental phenomenon that exists across various scales, from subatomic particles to galactic structures, and plays a critical role in the origin and evolution of life. Chiral nonspherical micro- and nanoparticles have witnessed a growing interest recently, primarily due to their fascinating physicochemical properties as well as wide-ranging applications. This surge in attention has spurred the development of innovative technologies based on established principles, with the design and synthesis of chiral particles being essential to the progress of chiral-related applications. This review highlights the major research breakthroughs in nonspherical chiral nanocomposites over the past decade. It explores various preparation methods, including emulsion, precipitation, and suspension polymerization, as well as advanced techniques such as electrospraying, microfluidics, photolithography, and self-assembly. Moreover, it underscores the influence of particle morphology on their functionality and practical uses. The subsequent sections delve into the applications of these particles in fields such as chiral separation, asymmetric catalysis, drug delivery, and circularly polarized luminescence. Lastly, the review addresses the key challenges and emerging opportunities within this domain, providing valuable insights and motivating further exploration in this rapidly advancing field.
