WCN25-1476 Bone Mineral Density in Elderly Hip Fracture Patients: The Dual Burden of Type 2 Diabetes and Chronic Kidney Disease
Diabetes mellitus (DM) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) are common medical conditions among the elderly and have been shown to increase the risk of bone fractures due to their negative impact on bone quality. Recent data demonstrates the association of bone mineral density (BMD) with fragility fractures in patients with CKD. When DM and CKD occur in combination, the negative impact on BMD may be greater due to the complex interplay between the two conditions. Given that T2DM is common in an Asian population, it is important for healthcare providers to be aware of the potential impact of DM and CKD on bone health and to implement appropriate interventions to reduce the risk of bone fractures in this population.
