Air Pollution Tolerance Index and Anticipated Performance Index of Selected Tree Species in Haridwar

This study assessed the efficiency of two tree species, Psidium guajava and Polyanthia longifolia, at two sites: Singhdwar (Site-I) and Amrit Vatika, Gurukul Kangri University (Site-II). Biochemical properties measured included dust load (0.27-2.01 mg/m²), relative water content (62.28-81.45%), ascorbic acid (1.11-2.83 mg/g), total chlorophyll content (0.76-2.02 mg/g), pH (6.3-7.2), air pollution tolerance index (APTI) (7.00-10.9), and anticipated performance index (API) (2-4). P. longifolia at Site-II exhibited the highest APTI and API values (10.9 and 4, respectively), while P. guajava at Site-I had the lowest (7.00 and 2, respectively). Consequently, P. longifolia, with its higher APTI and API values, is more effective to withstand poor air quality. .
