THE ACCEPTANCE OF PHILOSOPHY AND CURRENT ISSUES COURSE AMONG STUDENTS AT THE UNIVERSITI MALAYA

The Philosophy and Current Issues course offered at Universiti Malaya is a compulsory subject and a graduation requirement. Its position within the undergraduate curriculum highlights its significance in shaping graduates in alignment with the National Educational Philosophy. However, it is essential to evaluate the course's suitability and acceptance among students to identify and address potential weaknesses in its content and teaching methods. This study aims to assess students' acceptance of the course content, the development of soft skills, and the application of knowledge gained from the course. A quantitative research method was employed, involving a descriptive analysis of student feedback collected through questionnaires distributed at Universiti Malaya. The findings indicate that the majority of students positively received the Philosophy and Current Issues course, including its content and syllabus. The development of the lifelong learning attribute, as outlined in the Malaysian Qualification Framework (MQF), is also commendable. Additionally, students who completed the course demonstrated the ability to apply philosophical thinking in discussing current issues and integrating philosophical knowledge into other fields and daily life.
