Compliance of Contact Lens Care Among Young Adults In West Delhi

Background: Nowadays, the usage of contact lens is very high and it is further increasing day by day. The reason is that these lenses are comfortable, good for cosmetic purpose and provide freedom from spectacles. But it is found that users are not much aware about the harmful effects, in terms of eye infection. This has resulted into a lower compliance rate in the population. The non-compliance behavior is mainly linked with the complications associated with the contact lenses. Thus the compliance remains the most important factor for successful usage of contact lenses. So, in this study we have focused on the compliance of contact lenses in a metropolitan city (West Delhi). Materials & Methods: The study was conducted in 240 young adults at private optometric clinic in West Delhi. Self-administered and validated questionnaire was used to find out the rate of compliance and data was analyzed using the SPSS (Version 20.0), MS excel and GraphPad Prism 8.4.3. A p value of < 0.05 was taken as significant. Results: Out of 240 contact lens users only 68 (28.33%) shown the compliance and the females were found to have slightly higher compliance rate of 29% than males (26%). All (240) have highest compliance in category 2; cleaning and disinfecting procedure, of 85%. Conclusion: The study concluded a lower compliance rate in the urban population of West Delhi; lowest being in the care of contact lens accessories.
