Can we use selectin as an independent marker in ESRD Patients on HD for efficient HD?

Background: Cases diagnosed with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) get renal replacement treatment to prevent life-threatening consequences caused by uremic toxins, high levels of potassium, and excessive fluid retention. Aim: To evaluate the utilization of Selectin as a biomarker for clinical prognosis in cases with end-stage renal disease. Patients and Methods: This was a prospective cohort investigation involving forty cases with end-stage renal disease who were receiving regular dialysis therapy. The goal of the investigation was to evaluate the efficacy of Selectin as a biomarker for predicting clinical outcomes in ESRD cases. Results: There was a highly statistically significant decrease in Selectin after dialysis (p<0.001). An insignificant association was observed between pre- and post-dialysis and age. The variables included weight before dialysis, dry weight, height, BMI predialysis, BMI post-dialysis, hemolysis duration, WBCs, neutrophils, lymphocytes, NLR, HB, PLTs, creatinine, urea, S. cholesterol, TG, LDL, and HDL. The variables included Albumin predialysis, Albumin post-dialysis, Corrected, Ca, PO4, Ca Po4 product, PTH, S. iron, Ferritin, TIBC, and T.SAT, all with a significance level of less than 0.05. According to Selectin, before dialysis, there was statistically insignificant variation regarding sex, DM, HTN, and hemodialysis access. According to Selectin, after dialysis, there was statistically insignificant variance regarding sex, DM, and hemodialysis access, while there was a statistically significant distinction regarding HTN (p<0.05). Conclusion: The study found that selectin levels significantly decreased post-dialysis, indicating Selectin as a reliable, independent marker for end-stage renal disease cases on hemodialysis.

Aim: To evaluate the utilization of Selectin as a biomarker for clinical prognosis in cases with end-stage renal disease.
