Revolutionizing Psoriasis Therapy: Novel Nano-Emulsion Based Film Formulation For Mometasone Furoate Topical Delivery
The history of topical medications is lengthy. FFS are administered in a liquid form, and after being applied, the solvent evaporates and leaves a film on the skin. With incidence rates ranging from 0.05% of the general population in Taiwan to 1.88% in Australia, psoriasis is estimated to impact 60 million people worldwide. The current research was based on formulation and evaluation of novel nano-emulsion based film formulation for Mometasone furoate (MF) for topical delivery. Mometasone furoate was graciously provided by Allkind Healthcare Unit III, Baddi, HP. Preformulation study was performed in terms of physical properties, solubility, UV, preparation of std. calibration curve, FTIR and DSC of MF. The dispersion technique was used to create the film-forming solutions. The films were evaluated for drying time, weight variation, thickness, folding endurance, moisture content, and moisture uptake and in-vitro drug release. It was observed as odorless, white crystalline powder. UV spectroscopy demonstrated the maximum absorption at wavelength of 248nm. Thus, λmax for Mometasone Furoate was found to be 248nm. F1, F2, F5 and F7 showed integrity on skin as partially missing. However, F3, F4, F6, F8 and F9 demonstrated the complete integrity on skin. It was discovered that all manufactured formulations had a drug content that ranged from 95 to 99.95%. After 24 hours, the maximal release for formulation F8 was determined to be 97.82%. In conclusion, film formulations demonstrated almost identical characterization parameters in F1-F9. Highest cumulative % drug release was found to be 97.82% (F8) in 24 hours
