Reinterpretations of the myth of La Malinche in contemporary female narrative: Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda, Elena Garro and Laura Esquivel
This study focuses on how the figure of La Malinche has been reinterpreted in contemporary Mexican female narrative, with special attention to the reconstruction of the myth of La Malinche as a symbol of female identity in Mexican history. Through an analysis of the works of three key authors, Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda, Elena Garro, and Laura Esquivel, it exposes how these writers have transformed La Malinche from an icon of betrayal to an emblem of female agency and cultural resistance. These rereadings offer a new perspective on the role of women in Mexican narrative and challenge traditional patriarchal views that have predominated throughout history.
