Evaluation Of Typhidot in The Diagnosis of Typhoid Fever
Introduction: Typhoid fever continues to be an alarming disease even now. The current investigations have few drawbacks , to overcome few among them Typhidot-M is used in this study for diagnosing Typhoid fever. OBJECTIVES: To determine the usefulness of Typhidot M in early diagnosis of typhoid fever and to identify the sensitivity and specificity of Typhidot-M with blood culture as gold standard. To identify the usefulness of total leucocyte count [TLC] and eosinophil count in diagnosis of typhoid fever. Methods: A prospective observational study done at tertiary care centre and blood test [Typhidot-M] was performed for children who were having fever for minimum of 4 days. Typhidot –M and blood culture were done in all patients included in the study while Widal test was done only in those patients with fever of more than 7 days. Results: Among 130 cases recruited ,31 cases were found to be culture positive and 54 typhidot positive. The results showed that typhidot-M has 100% sensitivity and 76.7% specificity. Eosinopenia has 100% sensitivity and specificity of 23.2%. CONCLUSION: Our study attributes that TyphidotM is also a reliable test for detection of typhoid fever.
