The Impact of ChatGPT-Assisted Learning on English Speaking Proficiency of Korean University Students
This study investigates the impact of ChatGPT-based learning on Korean university students' English speaking proficiency, specifically within an EFL (English as a Foreign Language) context. Given the rapid integration of AI and educational technology, this research aims to explore the potential of ChatGPT in enhancing students’ vocabulary, pronunciation, grammatical accuracy, and fluency. Two groups participated in the study: an experimental group engaged in interactive learning sessions with ChatGPT, while a control group followed traditional instructor-led feedback methods. Assessments were conducted pre- and post-experiment to measure speaking proficiency. Weekly assignments, surveys, and interviews provided quantitative and qualitative insights. Results indicate that the ChatGPT-based approach led to significant improvements in vocabulary acquisition, pronunciation clarity, and conversational fluency, while also reducing students' psychological barriers to language use. This research highlights the effectiveness of AI-driven language learning tools in supporting autonomous learning and enhancing practical language skills in real-world contexts.
