Pratiques d’assemblages. Texte – architecture – sculpture : la matière comme relation

This article explores what the category of the sculptural, applied to textual and architecture spaces, can tell us about our relation to matter. Spaces of text and spaces of architecture display gaps and connections, and combine relations using existing materials as their points of departure. This particular relation to matter is observed here from the perspective of the gestural practices of assemblage, as an art of things that touch each other. These practices of assemblage, because they engage a direct relation with matter seem indeed relevant to understand the representations which inhabit our sensitivity. What do we think we know about matter? By focusing on our relations to its manipulation, on the movements of its work in progress – in the written word as a plastic art, as in the gestures of the assemblage – in sculpture, painting and architecture, we try to trace some leads, enabling us to approach matter as relation.
