A Comparative Study of Conventional Hemorrhoidectomy Versus Hemorrhoidectomy withHarmonic Scalpel For Grade III And Grade IV Hemorrhoids

Introduction: Hemorrhoids, a common anorectal disorder which significantly impacts the quality of life and often requires surgical intervention when conservative treatments fail.Hemorrhoidectomy, particularly for grade 3 and 4 hemorrhoids, is effective but associated with postoperative pain.New techniques and instruments, such as the Harmonic scalpel, aim to reduce pain and improve outcomes by minimizing thermal damage compared to conventional electrocautery. This study compares the efficacy and safety of Harmonic scalpel versus electro-cautery hemorrhoidectomy to identify the optimal approach for managing advanced hemorrhoidal disease. Aims & Objectives:1. To compare the outcomes of patients undergoing hemorrhoidectomy using harmonic scalpel versus conventional hemorrhoidectomy. 2.To compare the intraoperative bleeding, duration of the surgery, post operative pain, hospital stay between the two groups for better surgical outcomes.Methodology: This study was carried out in the Department of General Surgery at JSS Hospital, Mysuru, a tertiary care facility. It involved 60 patients, both male and female, aged between 18 and 75 years, who underwent hemorrhoidectomy. Result:The study compares Conventional Hemorrhoidectomy and Harmonic Scalpel Hemorrhoidectomy, finding significant advantages with the Harmonic Scalpel, including shorter surgery duration, reduced intraoperative blood loss, and lower postoperative pain scores at 24 and 48 hours. While no significant differences were observed in postoperative bleeding, urinary retention, or complications, the Harmonic Scalpel showed trends towards fewer complications and a shorter hospital stay. These results suggest that the Harmonic Scalpel is a safer and more efficient alternative for hemorrhoidectomy. Conclusion:The study shows that Harmonic Scalpel Hemorrhoidectomy has following advantages compared to conventional hemorrhoidectomy Significantly reduces operative time Intra operative blood loss is reduced Reduces Post operative pain While no significant differences were found in postoperative bleeding, urinary retention, or complications, the Harmonic Scalpel's efficiency and recovery benefits suggests it is a safer and more effective option.A Comparative Study of Conventional Hemorrhoidectomy Versus Hemorrhoidectomy With Harmonic Scalpel For Grade III And Grade IV Hemorrhoids 12779
