New insights on what happens when coworkers shape their jobs

Purpose This paper aims to review the latest management developments across the globe and pinpoint practical implications from cutting-edge research and case studies. Design/methodology/approach This briefing is prepared by an independent writer who adds their own impartial comments and places the articles in context. Findings This study examined how employees interpret and respond to their colleagues’ job crafting behaviors. Research findings from both experimental and survey data showed that employees generally attribute prosocial motives to colleagues’ approach crafting, leading to increased social support and decreased social undermining. When observers attributed both high impression management and prosocial motives, it resulted in less supportive responses. Key managerial takeaways include organizing job crafting workshops and encouraging prosocial motivations in job crafting activities. Originality/value The briefing saves busy executives, strategists and researchers hours of reading time by selecting only the very best, most pertinent information and presenting it in a condensed and easy-to-digest format.
