Peroxymonosulfate Activation by Co(CN)3 Catalyst for Rapid Degradation of Antibiotic
Owning to both well‐defined active sites and high site densities, Co‐MOFs have emerged as a promising catalyst for their high performance. Herein, Co(CN) 3 with cubic structure and morphology are successfully synthesized via hydrothermal method. As the activator of peroxymonosulfate (PMS), Co(CN) 3 is applied to the degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride (TC) for the first time. At the optimized reaction conditions ([catalyst] = 0.1 g · L −1 , [TC] = 20 mg L −1 , [PMS] = 3 mmol·L −1 , initial pH = 7, T = 25 °C), the efficiency of degradation achieves 94%. Coexisting dissolved organic matter and Cl − ions reduce the TC degradation efficiency by a noticeable percentage, while the HCO 3 − and H 2 PO 4 − ions slightly prevent the degradation process. Mechanism investigations suggest that SO 4 •− and 1 O 2 play crucial roles in the catalytic process. Recycling experiments demonstrated that the catalytic performance of Co(CN) 3 remains at 55% after four cycles. This work offers novel insights into Co(CN) 3 catalyst for activating PMS.
