INCREASING THE PRODUCTIVITY OF ACIDIC SOILS IN THE CENTRAL-WESTERN AREA OF THE PITESTI HIGHT PLAIN
The High Plain of Pitești, an area with very good agricultural potential, faces problems of soil acidity. A large number of samples were taken from the area of the High Plain of Pitești for physical and chemical laboratory analyses. According to the results of the laboratory analyses, a small amount of exchangeable aluminum was discovered in the analyzed soil in twenty-two samples. Aluminum is an important element in soil analyses as its high concentrations can determine soil acidification and the decrease of its productivity. Thus, Al3+ ions cause desorption of Ca2+, K+ and Mg2+ ions and other species of cations from the pectocellubasic layer of root hairs, deterioration of nutrition, absorption of these cations decreasing while that of Al3+ increases. It also reduces phosphorus nutrition as phosphorus precipitates in the form of aluminum phosphates on the root surface. The maximum amount found in the studied samples is 0.80 me/100g soil, which does not fit in the large concentrations range, only in the small or very small ones. So, if measures are taken immediately, the chemical balance of the soil could be adjusted. In order to change the pH and bring the soil to normal productivity, liming technical works are recommended in these areas.
