A critique of multiplicative scatter correction pre-treatment of NIR spectra
Multiplicative scatter correction (MSC) pre-treatment of NIR spectra adds spectral trend deviations from its average value to the spectral set average (inversely interpolated smooth estimate). This means any scatter components from the original spectrum are carried over into the calculated new MSC spectrum. Use of the ordinary least squares regression method can lead to slope attenuation.
