Wind Power Based Impedance Source Inverter for constant output voltage

The Z-Source Inverter (ZSI) is popular for wind power conversion, offering advantages over traditional voltage and current source inverters. This paper proposes using ZSI to handle the variable nature of wind power. Its impedance network, consisting of capacitors and inductors, enables efficient DC-to-AC conversion, allowing direct grid connection or standalone operation. It uses a Simple Boost Control PWM Switching Scheme with sinusoidal and triangular waves to maintain a stable output voltage even at low wind generation. The primary contribution of this work is to establish a direct correlation between the DC offset value of the simple boost control (SBC) scheme and wind speed. To illustrate this relationship, a lookup table has been developed, which demonstrates that wind speed exhibits an almost linear variation with the DC offset value in the SBC control method. This offers important insights into how the inverter’s output can be regulated to a fixed value by adjusting the DC offset of the SBC scheme, corresponding to different wind speeds. Moreover the ZSI reduces reliance on external boost converters, enhancing compactness and cost-efficiency, conduction losses. The ZSI technology promises significant advancements in sustainable energy and wind energy conversion efficiency. The entire system is simulated under varying wind speed, and the results are provided
