Analysis and Design of a 4th-order Feedforward Compensated Operational Amplifier

This paper presents the analysis and design of a 4th-order feedforward compensated operational amplifier for applications in continuous-time bandpass delta-sigma modulators. A new design method is proposed and analysed on the system level. Based on the proposed method, a 4th-order feedforward compensated operational amplifier is designed in a 65 nm CMOS process. With 400 fF capacitance load, the op amp consumes 10.8 mA from a supply voltage of 1.2 V. It is conditionally stable with a phase margin of 72.1 degrees and has gains of 64.6 dB, 40.0 dB and 11.5 dB at DC, 340 MHz and 1 GHz respectively.
