Lifetime Analysis of Physically Damaged Electrolytic Capacitors
Electrolytic capacitors, crucial in electronic circuits for charge storage, power regulation, and AC/DC conversion, rely on an oxide layer on the anode for their dielectric. Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are particularly valued for their high capacity and cost-effectiveness. However, they are sensitive to voltage, temperature changes, and reverse polarization, leading to various failure modes. As a result of these failure modes, they undergo catastrophic degradation. This paper will investigate the lifetime implications and usage risks of aluminum electrolytic capacitors used in production stages in the event of physical damage. The capacitance and ESR characteristics of aluminum electrolytic capabilities will be examined in order to determine the impact on lifetime. Special life tests will be performed on damaged components, and possible risks will be measured in a laboratory environment. This investigation aims to contribute to future research in this area. Furthermore, the possible failure modes and underlying causes of physically damaged components will be discussed.
