Segmental analysis of GPS accuracy in ESP based device for Linear Distance Measurement
The Global Positioning System (GPS) has emerged as a crucial tool in surveying and measurement studies, allowing for more quick methods of surveys. In this particular investigation, the analysis of linear measurements involved the utilization of a smart GPS handheld device. The chosen area for this study was a portion within the campus of University of Engineering & Management, Jaipur (UEMJ). The primary objective of the study was to implement and analyze the freshly designed prototype device aimed for land use surveys conducted using GPS. The foundational data for mapping the entire study area comprised GPS readings obtained during the field survey. This paper endeavors to assess the efficacy of handheld GPS in land use surveys, acknowledging its inherent low precision. A comparative analysis was also performed to judge the real-time efficiency of the device. Interestingly, the survey showed distinctive behavior of GPS module precision for different range of measurements. Hence, the differential precision of low-cost GPS module is surveyed and analyzed in this paper. The handheld GPS is recommended for preliminary surveys, particularly in situations characterized by a shortage of manpower and time.
