High-Gain DC-DC Converter Implemented with an Improved Sliding Mode MPPT Control for Solar PV Applications

This paper presents an improved sliding mode - maximum power point tracking (SM-MPPT) control for extracting maximum power from the proposed photo voltaic system. This paper explains the concept of SM-MPPT control and the implementation of improved SM-MPPT control on a high-gain DC-DC converter to control solar power. In order to eliminate error under steady state, a SM control uses an integral of the tracking voltage error term in its sliding surface. Compared to the perturbation and observation (P & O) control method, the response time of the improved SM-MPPT control is rapid when it comes to changes in solar irradiance. The primary objective of this article is to implement an MPPT for a PV system that takes advantage of the Control's strengths while addressing the drawbacks of chattering and slow transient response with a different sliding surface. The second objective is to implement the SM-MPPT control technique on a high-gain converter and observe the results using MATLAB 2024a.
