Experimental Analysis of Thermoelectric Generator and its Application to Hybrid Electric Vehicle

In light of the energy crisis of the 21st century, the significance of energy harvesting is on the rise. In automotive vehicles approximately one-third heat is lost through exhaust emissions. This wasted thermal energy can be captured using a thermoelectric generator (TEG). The current study involves an experimental investigation of a thermoelectric generator. A heat exchanger has been designed and constructed. Hot air at the desired temperature is delivered to the heat exchanger's hot side using a hot air blower, while cold water flows through the cold side at a specified mass flow rate. Between these two sides, 24 commercial thermoelectric generators are positioned. The impact of temperatures on both the hot and cold sides, as well as the mass flow rate, is examined. Additionally, the influence of load resistance is analysed. The performance of the system is assessed. A model of a hybrid electric vehicle is also developed in MA TLAB, capturing the characteristics of exhaust gases. The performance of the TEG in the context of hybrid electric vehicles is evaluated and discussed.
