SPECIFIC MICROORGANISMS AND OPTIMIZED STRATEGIES FOR BIOGAS PRODUCTION: FOCUS ON THE HYDROLYSIS PHASE

The objective of this study was to analyze and synthesize knowledge aboutthe specific types of microorganisms involved in the hydrolysis stage of the anaerobicdigestion process for biogas production. A systematic literature review was used toidentify the functions and interactions of these microorganisms and the ideal conditionsto optimize hydrolysis efficiency. The main results highlight the importance of hydrolyticbacteria, anaerobic fungi and microbial consortia, such as Bacteroides andClostridium, in the conversion of complex polymers into soluble monomers. It wasfound that detailed identification down to the species level is crucial to improving theefficiency of the process. It is concluded that additional research is needed tocharacterize the microbiota in detail and optimize biogas production.
