TOOL STEEL ALLOY SELECTION FOR DLC DEPOSITION APPLIED TO GEARBOX COMPONENTS
The objective of this article is to evaluate and select a steel alloy for DLC(Diamond-Like Carbon) coating in wind turbine gearboxes, aiming to improve theirdurability and wear resistance. The methodology involves collecting and analyzing thechemical and mechanical properties of the M2, D6, 1045, H13, and O1 alloys, alongwith a price survey. The selected alloy, based on the best cost-benefit ratio, was coatedwith DLC using PECVD. Results showed that the D6 alloy has the best combination ofchemical and mechanical properties, excelling in wear and corrosion resistance, making it the most suitable for application in wind turbine gearboxes. Ramanspectroscopic analysis of the DLC coating indicated a good quality structure.
