Literature Review on Supporting Strategy for Adult Learners in Higher Education
With the increase in the average life expectancy and the transition to an aging society characterized by low birth rates, the importance of lifelong learning has grown significantly, prompting universities to expand their roles in adult education. This study analyzed the research trends in support strategies for adult learners in higher education through a systematic literature review. This analysis focuses on the annual distribution of studies, research objectives, study types, data analysis methods, and areas of support for adult learners. These findings indicate that the research on support strategies for adult learners has increased in recent years. Regarding research objectives, action research was the most prevalent approach, while survey research was the most common study type. Quantitative analysis is the method most frequently used for this purpose. Support strategies for adult learners are categorized into educational, organizational, and institutional dimensions, with learning support receiving the greatest focus. These results highlight the need for integrated support systems to address adult learners’ diverse needs. This study provides foundational insights that can inform the development of policies and programs aimed at enhancing the support for adult learners in higher education.
