A study on the Role of Intelligence Police during International Events: Focusing on the 2024 Busan World Table Tennis Championships
This study examines the role and importance of information police in sporting events, focusing on the 2024 Busan World Table Tennis Championships. Sports events must be held successfully to enhance the national image and ensure the well-being of the people, and in this process, the intelligence police's prior information collection and terrorism prevention activities are essential. Through literature research and case analysis, various risk factors that can occur at international events were identified, and the specific role of the intelligence police and improvement measures to respond to them were presented. In particular, the aim was to suggest a direction for sports event safety management by analyzing the activities performed by the intelligence police during the preparation and operation of the Busan World Table Tennis Championships. Through this, the role of the intelligence police was examined in various aspects, including personal protection of key personnel and participating athletes, strengthening the cooperation system to prevent terrorism, and checking the safety of event venues and accommodations. Furthermore, we discuss legal and institutional improvement measures against the threat of terrorism at international events, and emphasize the importance of a cooperative system between the intelligence police and related organizations. Through this, we aim to provide policy implications for holding safe and successful international events.
