Megawatt peak power, nanosecond, eye-safe laser
We developed a compact high peak power, nanosecond laser transmitter. The linear cavity laser consists a concave and a plane mirror, a Yb:Er:glass as the active medium, and an acousto-optic modulator (AOM) as the active Q-switch. Our laser operates at peak power >1MW and pulse width <10ns. The repetition rate can be tuned from 1Hz to 20Hz. The laser beam divergence is 4.5mrad without collimating system. This laser is used in our laser rangefinder device with the range performance up to 40km.
