Uterine adenolipoleiomyoma: An incidentaloma – A case report with review

ABSTRACT Uterine (endometrial) adenolipoleiomyoma/adenomyolipoma (UA) is an extremely rare benign hamartomatous lesion possessing debateable histogenesis. UA comprises mature adipocytes and smooth muscle bundles and glands in different proportions and a haphazard manner. It may form a polypoidal structure/intramural/intraluminal and is mostly located in the endometrial cavity/fallopian tube or very rarely cervix. Only six cases were published so far in the literature with a single case having an aggressive course in the form of recurrence. Although extremely rare and benign in nature, sometimes, they are blamed for some heralding symptoms such as profuse vaginal bleeding and hence thought to be of mullerian origin. We report such a case of adenomyolipomatous polyp in the endometrial cavity of a 39-year-old female detected incidentally while performing endometrial biopsy for abnormal uterine bleeding that was missed in abdominopelvic ultrasonography.
