A rare case of median nerve schwannoma in the cubital fossa
ABSTRACT Schwannoma is a tumor that develops from the nerve sheath. The authors report an unusual case of schwannoma of the median nerve (MN) that presented with a swelling over the left elbow with symptoms of median neuropathy for a period of 2 years. The diagnosis was based on the location of the tumor, associated clinical symptoms, and signs coupled with magnetic resonance imaging and fine needle aspiration cytology results. Schwannomas are indolent tumors that can go undiagnosed for extended periods of time owing to their slow-growing nature and low propensity for malignancy. Schwannomas are most commonly observed in the MN, the commonest location being the carpal tunnel.
