High-gain Antennas Loaded with Metasurfaces for Customer Premise Equipment Systems

This paper presents a design of a high-gain 5G antenna array for Customer Premises Equipment (CPE). The antenna unit in the array consists of two circular dipole elements, a partial reflecting surface (PRS) layer, and a feeding structure. Simulation results indicate that within the desired operating frequency range (3.2-3.8 GHz, VSWR<2), the PRS layer based on meta-surface effectively enhances the average gain of the unit by 1 dBi and provides a decoupling of at least 6 dB for the array. Physical validation confirms the antenna's operational frequency band from 3.15 to 3.75 GHz (VSWR<2), with unit's isolation exceeding 27.5 dB and inter-unit isolation exceeding 26 dB. The individual unit gains in the array range from 6.8 to 8.8 dBi. Overall, this meta-surfaces-based antenna array can be applied to CPE systems to enhance communication capabilities with base stations.
