The Investigation of EM Scattering and SAR Image Simulation of Maritime Ship Formation

In order to effectively simulate the SAR images of composite scenes of maritime ship formation, this paper combines the Two-scale subdivision Shooting and bouncing Ray method (TSBR) with the two-scale model (TSM) of sea surface to establish an electromagnetic (EM) scattering model for maritime ship formations. This method uses the large-sized facet to fit the geometric profiles of ship target and sea surface, while utilizing fine ray tubes formed by the small-sized facet for ray tracing. Moreover, it considers the complex coupled scattering paths between the sea surface and ship formation, improving computational accuracy while ensuring efficiency. Finally, the EM scattering calculation model is further combined with the SAR imaging system to simulate the SAR echo signals of the maritime ship formations. Then the Range Doppler (RD) imaging method is used to obtain the SAR image of maritime ship formation. Our work will to some extent alleviate the problem of insufficient measured ship SAR images, and provide the data support for the ship detection and recognition in the complex maritime environment.
