Design of a Broadband Slant Polarized Cavity Backed Microstrip-Fed Antenna
The design of a broadband slant polarized cavity backed microstrip-fed antenna for X/Ku-band applications is presented. The proposed antenna consists of a metallic cylinder cavity, a metallic dipole and a microstrip feed line connecting with the inner conductor of a connector. The metallic cylinder cavity is partially notched on the cavity wall to enhance the bandwidth and improve the radiation performance. It is shown that the slant polarized cavity backed antenna has a bandwidth ratio over 3: 1 for Voltage Standing Wave Ratio less than 3 and realized gains ranging from 4.4 dBi to 8.3 dBi. Coverage angles with x-polarized and y-polarized gains higher than 0 dBi are over 60° in both the vertical and horizontal plane.
