Thermal demands of Spodoptera eridania (Cramer, 1792) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) subjected to two food sources

The objective of this study was to analyze the thermal requirements of Spodoptera eridania exposed to various temperatures and two different food sources. The base temperature (Tb) and thermal constant (K) for various development stages were estimated using a linear regression model, considering both types of food sources. Additionally, the development rates of S. eridania in response to temperature across the two food types were analyzed using non-linear models. The lower thermal threshold (Tb) and the thermal constant (K) varied depending on the developmental stage and overall biological cycle. Among the non-linear models tested, the Briere-2 model proved the best fit for all developmental stages except the pre-pupal stage, for which the Logan-6 model was more suitable.

Abstract

The base temperature (Tb) and thermal constant (K) for various development stages were estimated using a linear regression model, considering both types of food sources. Additionally, the development rates of S. eridania in response to temperature across the two food types were analyzed using non-linear models. The lower thermal threshold (Tb) and the thermal constant (K) varied depending on the developmental stage and overall biological cycle. Among the non-linear models tested, the Briere-2 model proved the best fit for all developmental stages except the pre-pupal stage, for which the Logan-6 model was more suitable.
