Wideband Fabry Perot Antenna with the PRS Array Optimization Using the Electric Field Analysis

A wideband Fabry-Perot (FP) antenna with the partially reflection surface (PRS) array size optimization using the electric field analysis is proposed in this paper. The PRS layer is composed of complementary square apertures and patches printed on either side of a thin dielectric sheet. Different from the previous works, this paper optimizes the size of the PRS array while ensuring the positive gradient reflection phase range of the PRS unit. By comparing the effects of different size PRS on antenna electric field distribution, a 6 × 6 PRS array is selected as the final version. The designed antenna operates at 8.8-11.6 GHz frequency band, and the 3 dB gain bandwidth is 29.1% (8.5-11.4GHz).
