Radiation Pattern Reconfigurable Patch Antenna Loaded with a Dielectric Lens for mm-Wave Applications
In this paper, a millimeter-wave(mm-Wave) radiation pattern reconfigurable patch antenna loaded with a dielectric lens is proposed. The antenna consists of a driven patch, two groups of parasitic patch elements, two groups of PIN diodes and an extended conical dielectric lens. The H-plane maximum radiation direction can be switched between +30° and -30° by controlling the states of PIN diodes. In order to improve the gain and radiation performance of the antenna, an extended conical lens is added onto the antenna. It increases the antenna gain by 5–6 dB, and makes the radiation pattern more stable. It is suitable for satellite communication, mobile communication and other wireless systems.
