Capacity Analysis of a Ridge Gap Waveguide at Millimeter Wave Regime for Future Communication Systems

This paper analyzes a ridge gap waveguide (RGW) in the millimeter range to evaluate its capacity performance. In the initial stage, the dimensions of the waveguide were adjusted to match the frequency range specified by the guidance of the ITU for future communication technologies. The RGW, which has single-mode dispersion between 240 GHz and 360 GHz, exhibits return loss performance below -10 dB. Subsequently, data transfer rates were examined in frequency bands of 275-296 GHz, 306-313 GHz, and 318-333 GHz, having bandwidths of 21 GHz, 7 GHz, and 15 GHz, respectively. Thus, it is envisaged that gaining insight into the efficient design of gap waveguide structures will be beneficial for the design of circuitry for future communication systems.
