Analogue of Tunable Polarization Independent Electromagnetically Induced Transparency Based on Graphene-Integrated Metamaterial

A planar metamaterial (MM) capable of exhibiting independently tunable electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) effect is proposed and investigated. The near field coupling between the bright resonator of the metallic cross and the dark resonator of the graphene square ring gives rise to the transparency window. The EIT effect is insensitive to the polarization direction due to the symmetric geometry. By tuning the Fermi energy of graphene layer, the EIT effect can be dynamically controlled. Furthermore, the polarization-insensitive slow wave effect can be realized with the group delay up to 5.0 ps. This work may provide possible method for terahertz filters, slow wave devices and modulators.
