Design and Fabrication of a 2.45 GHz Flexible Liquid Metal Antenna
In this letter, a flexible liquid metal antenna operating at 2.45 GHz with a dielectric substrate thickness of 50 <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\boldsymbol{\mu m}$</tex> is proposed. The design utilizes liquid metal eutectic gallium-indium (EGaIn) as the antenna's conductive material, a flexible polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) material as the dielectric substrate, and a coplanar waveguide (CPW) to feed the antenna. The simulated results show that the antenna has a minimum bending radius of 10 mm in both directions when covering the 2.45 GHz ISM band using HFSS. Finally, the laboratory fabrication process and the bendability measurements of the antenna are described in detail.
