An Active Power Feedforward Compensation-Based Power Decoupling Method for Droop Control Converters
In grid-forming (GFM) control, the natural coupling between active and reactive power degrades reactive power control accuracy, limits power support capability, and slows down dynamic processes. To address this issue, this article proposes a power decoupling method based on active power feedforward compensation for droop control converters, which eliminates power coupling across all four quadrants and is particularly suited for distributed generation systems with flexible operating modes. The physical power coupling behaviors are analyzed using a small-signal model, which identifies the line impedance ratio (R</i>/X</i>) and power angle as key factors shaping the coupling characteristics. A comparison between the coupling coefficient and converter output voltage shows that power decoupling can be achieved through output voltage compensation, forming the basis of the proposed method. By precisely calculating the compensation term, power coupling is eliminated in all four quadrants without compromising response speed, thus enhancing the control performance and operational adaptability of GFM converters in distributed generation systems. Experimental results validate the effectiveness of the proposed decoupling approach.
