Wideband and Low-Profile Magneto-electric Dipole Array with AMC Ground Plane
This paper presents the design of a Wideband, low-profile array antenna based on a magneto-electric dipole antenna element. To mitigate the impact of the metal reflector on the radiation of the electric and magnetic dipoles, an artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) is introduced in the design of the antenna element. By incorporating a periodic AMC structure between the radiation source of the antenna element and the metal reflector, the reflection phase characteristics of the metal reflector are altered. This allows the radiation source to be positioned as close as possible to the metal reflector. The designed antenna element achieves good impedance matching and a stable radiation pattern over a wide bandwidth from 5.6 GHz to 8.7 GHz with VSWR <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\leq 2$</tex>. The total profile of the antenna element is <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$0.06\lambda_{5.6\text{GHz}}$</tex>.
