Blockchain-Based Biometric Authentication for the Metaverse using DIDs

The growing popularity of the Metaverse, a virtual world where individuals interact through computer-generated avatars, requires strong and secure identity management solutions. This paper proposes a Blockchain-Based Biometric Authentication system using Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs) to address the unique security challenges of the Metaverse. Leveraging the decentralized and tamper-proof nature of blockchain, combined with biometric data, our system guarantees secure and reliable identity verification while maintaining user control over personal data. Using data sourced from the FVC2004-DB2_B fingerprint database, our experiments demonstrated the system’s efficiency and reliability. Initial results showed low gas usage for contract operations, with rapid registration and authentication times. These findings underscore the potential of the proposed system for enhancing user security and control over personal data in the Metaverse.
