The Impact of the Sea on the RCS of Ship Targets at Different Incident Plane Wave Angles

It is crucial to choose an appropriate incident plane wave angle for accurately measuring the radar cross section (RCS) of ship targets at sea, as an unsuitable angle can significantly amplify the impact from the sea. In this paper, the impact of the sea on the RCS of ship targets at different incident plane wave angles is investigated. Firstly, a typical ship target model is selected, and a sea model composed of planar patches is simulated based on the Pierson-Moskowitz spectrum(P-M spectrum). Secondly, simulations using FEKO software are conducted to analyze the impact. The simulation results prove that the sea has minimal impact on the RCS of ship targets at an incident plane wave angle θ is approximately 30 degrees, with an average deviation of less than 3 dB.
